The bookmark shortcut key is Ctrl + D in Chrome, Edge and Firefox. Press it on any page and a small box appears to name the bookmark and choose its folder; press Enter to save. On a Mac, use Command + D.
Edge calls bookmarks Favourites, but the key is the same. Ctrl + Shift + B shows or hides the bookmarks bar under the address bar, and Ctrl + Shift + D saves every open tab into one folder.

How to bookmark a page and find it later
- Open the page you want to keep.
- Press Ctrl + D. A small box appears with the page title.
- Shorten the name if it is long, and choose a folder such as Bookmarks bar.
- Press Enter. A star in the address bar turns blue to show it is saved.
To open it later, start typing its name in the address bar; bookmarked pages appear near the top of the suggestions. Clicking the star again lets you rename the bookmark, move it to another folder, or remove it.
Organise bookmarks
Open the bookmark manager with Ctrl + Shift + O to create folders such as Work, Bank and Exams, drag bookmarks into them, and delete old ones. Keep the bookmarks bar for the five or six sites you open daily; put the rest in folders. Signing in to the browser syncs bookmarks to your phone and other computers. Browsers can also import bookmarks from one another, so switching from one browser to another does not lose your saved sites; look for Import bookmarks and settings in the menu.
Bookmarks on your phone
If you are signed in to the same browser account on your phone, bookmarks made on the laptop appear there too, usually under a Mobile or Desktop folder. On the phone, the star icon or the three dot menu adds a bookmark, since there is no keyboard shortcut. Syncing is the easiest way to carry useful links, such as exam portals and bank pages, between devices without emailing them to yourself.
