They are the keys used by MIS executives, analysts and accountants who handle large sheets daily. Each section below groups them by job: data, formulas, analysis and automation.

Advanced filter shortcut key

Advanced Filter extracts records matching several conditions, including OR conditions across columns, and can copy the result to another place. Set up a small criteria range with the same headings above your data, put conditions under them, click in the data, and press Alt, A, Q. Choose the list range, criteria range and Copy to another location. For simple filters, Ctrl + Shift + L is quicker; see Excel filter shortcut.

Macros and automation

Alt + F8 lists macros to run, and Alt + F11 opens the VBA editor to write or edit them. Record a macro from the View tab for repetitive formatting, then run it with a key you assign in the recording box. Save such files as .xlsm, and enable macros only from trusted sources, because macros can carry harmful code.

An MIS executive receives the same raw export every morning. A recorded macro run with Alt + F8 cleans it, a table made with Ctrl + T feeds a pivot, and Ctrl + Alt + F5 refreshes the report in seconds.
