The control panel shortcut key is Win + R: enter control as the command and confirm with Enter. Control Panel opens at once, even in Windows 11, where it is hidden behind the newer Settings app.

Two related tools have quicker keys. Win + X followed by M opens Device Manager, where drivers and hardware live. Alt + Enter on a selected file or folder opens its Properties window.

Switch Control Panel to a simpler view

Control Panel opens in Category view, which hides many items under headings. Change View by, at the top right, to Large icons to see every tool on one screen, including Credential Manager, Fonts, Mail and Troubleshooting. Windows remembers the choice. You can also type in the search box at the top right of Control Panel, which finds the right applet even when you do not know which category it sits under. Older guides and IT support instructions often describe steps in Control Panel, so knowing how to reach it quickly saves time when following them.
