In Windows 11, Win + A opens quick settings for Wi Fi, Bluetooth, brightness and volume without opening the full app. On a Mac, Command + , opens the settings of the app you are using.

Shortcut to open settings pages directly

Press Win + R and type a settings address to land on one page. Useful ones are ms-settings:display, ms-settings:bluetooth, ms-settings:windowsupdate, ms-settings:network and ms-settings:apps. Press Enter and Settings opens on that page. This is handy when helping someone on the phone; the Run box is explained in Run command shortcut.

Pin a settings page you use often to Start: right click its name in the left pane of Settings, then Pin to Start. A pinned tile opens that exact page with one click, which suits pages you visit weekly, such as Windows Update or Bluetooth devices.

How the settings shortcut differs between Windows 11 and 10

Differences

NotificationsWin + NAction Center, Win + A

The older Control Panel still exists in both and holds some advanced options; see Control Panel shortcut.

Navigate Settings with the keyboard

  1. Press Win + I; the search box has focus.
  2. Type part of a setting name and press the down arrow to pick a result.
  3. Press Enter to open it, then Tab to move between options.
  4. Press Space to switch a toggle on or off, and Alt + F4 to close Settings.

Settings remembers the last page only until it is closed, so searching is usually faster than clicking through categories. Search understands everyday words too: typing mouse speed, night light, default browser or storage finds the right page even if you do not know which category holds it. Screen readers announce each option as you tab, so the same steps work for people with low vision.
