Figma shortcut keys are mostly single letters for tools: V Move, F Frame, R Rectangle, O Ellipse, T Text and P Pen. Layout keys come next, with Shift + A wrapping a selection in auto layout and Ctrl + Alt + K turning it into a component.

Canva uses a smaller set: T adds a text box, R a rectangle, C a circle and L a line, while Ctrl + D duplicates and Ctrl + G groups. On a Mac, Command replaces Ctrl and Option replaces Alt in both tools.

Hold Shift while drawing to keep shapes square or circular, and Alt to draw from the centre. Dragging an object while holding Alt makes a copy, which is the quickest way to repeat cards or buttons in a layout.

Auto layout turns a group into a stack that grows with its content, so a button widens when its label gets longer. Combined with components, it lets you change one master button and update every copy across the file.

Zoom and navigation

Shift + 1 zooms to fit everything, Shift + 2 zooms to the selection, and Shift + 0 returns to 100 percent. Hold Space and drag to pan. Ctrl + \ hides the interface for a clean preview of the design, and Ctrl + / opens quick actions, where you can search any command by name. The complete list appears with Ctrl + Shift + ?, which shows the keys you have already used in colour, a nice way to track progress.

Canva keeps its own up to date list under the help button at the bottom right of the editor, in the keyboard shortcuts section. Check it when a key behaves differently, because Canva updates its editor often.

Arrow keys nudge a selected element; holding Shift with an arrow moves it in bigger steps, which helps line up text on social media posts.
