In Tally which shortcut is used to export data to Excel? The answer is Alt + E. In Tally ERP 9 it opens the Export screen for the report you are viewing, and in TallyPrime it opens the Export menu in the top bar. Choose Excel (Spreadsheet) as the format and press Enter to create the file.
TallyPrime adds a second key: Ctrl + E exports the current voucher or report directly. For exam questions asking which shortcut exports data to Excel, the expected answer is Alt + E.

- Press Alt + E. The Export Report screen appears.
- Set Format to Excel (Spreadsheet) and change the output file name if needed.

Tips for a clean Excel file
Before exporting, use F12 to configure the report so it shows exactly the columns you need, and Alt + F2 to set the period. Exporting in detailed mode includes every entry; condensed mode gives totals only. After opening the file in Excel, use Ctrl + Shift + L to add filters and sort or total the data; see the Excel filter shortcut.
When the export does not work
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| Alt + E does nothing | Open a report first; export works from reports and vouchers |
| File will not open | Excel is not installed; open it with another spreadsheet program |
| Cannot find the file | Look at the Export Location shown on the export screen |
| Ctrl + E does nothing | You are on Tally ERP 9; use Alt + E |
Importing back into Tally
Moving data the other way, from Excel into Tally, uses the Import menu, Alt + O in TallyPrime, and usually needs a mapping template. Tally's help pages explain the format for vouchers and masters. All the Tally guides on this site are listed under Tally shortcut keys, including voucher keys.
