Ctrl + M returns to the main screen

The tally calculator shortcut key is Ctrl + N. In TallyPrime it opens or hides the calculator panel at the bottom of the screen, so you can work out a total without leaving Tally. Type the sum, such as 1250*18/100, and press Enter to see the answer. Brackets work too, for example (4500+3200)*2, so you can group parts of a longer sum.

Inside an Amount field of a voucher, Alt + C opens a small calculation so the result goes straight into the field. Tally ERP 9 also uses Ctrl + N for its calculator area.

The TallyPrime keys come from Tally's own shortcut list. The ERP 9 calculator sits in a box at the bottom of the Gateway screen. In both versions the calculator remembers your last result, so you can continue a long sum step by step without retyping earlier totals.

How to use the calculator in TallyPrime

  1. Press Ctrl + N. The calculator panel opens at the bottom.
  2. Type the calculation with the number keys and + - * /, for example 4500+3200-750.
  3. Press Enter. The result appears.
  4. Press Ctrl + N again to hide the panel and go back to your voucher.
Use * for multiply and / for divide. The x key and the division sign are not understood.

Calculate inside a voucher amount

While entering a voucher, move to the Amount field and press Alt + C. Type the calculation, such as 120*45, and press Enter; the result fills the field. This avoids typing errors when copying a number from the calculator by hand, which is the most common source of wrong entries in daily bookkeeping. It is especially handy for freight, labour or petty cash vouchers where several small amounts make up one entry, and for splitting one bill across departments.
